HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the language every web page is written in. An HTML file is plain text marked up with tags that describe the structure of a document — headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images, tables, and forms — which a browser then renders visually. HTML is maintained as a living standard, and it works alongside CSS for appearance and JavaScript for behaviour.
Double-click the file and it opens in your default web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari — rendered as a web page.
To see or edit the underlying code, open it in a text editor such as Visual Studio Code, Notepad++, or Sublime Text, all of which highlight the tags and catch errors. Keep in mind that a saved HTML page often depends on a companion folder of images and stylesheets — move both together or the page will look broken. Our HTML to PDF tool turns a page into a fixed, shareable document.

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a raster-based file type that compresses images for portability. PNG images can have RGB or RGBA colors and support transparency, which makes them perfect for use in icons, or graphic designs. PNG also supports animations with better transparency (try our GIF to APNG). The benefits of using PNG are Plus, PNG is an open format that uses lossless compression.
Generally, PNG files will open in your operating system’s default image viewer. PNG files are also easily viewable on all web browsers. If you are having trouble opening PNG files, use our PNG to JPG, PNG to WebP, or PNG to BMP converters.
Alternative programs such as GIMP or Adobe Photoshop are useful for opening and editing PNG files. PNG files are a bit larger than other file types, so exercise caution when adding them to a web page. One interesting feature of PNG files is the ability to create transparency in the image, particularly a transparent background.
