Sets how the video is encoded. "Auto" suits most conversions. "Copy" reuses the video as-is, so it is fast and keeps full quality, but only when the output format supports it.
No change
Choose how the video is resized: to a set resolution, or to a different aspect ratio, where the video's width is kept and the height is recalculated to match. Select "No change" to keep the original size.

Sets how many frames per second the output video has. Lowering it reduces file size but makes motion less smooth, and raising it above the source frame rate won't add smoothness. "No change" keeps the source frame rate.

Raw-audio is a headerless PCM sound file: nothing but the digital samples themselves, with no metadata, no compression, and no marker identifying where the audio begins. A WAV file is essentially the same data with a short descriptive header attached. Raw-audio appears most often as the output of audio hardware, DSP pipelines, and telephony systems, and as the intermediate stage between processing steps.

 

How to open a raw-audio file?

Import it into Audacity using File → Import → Raw Data. You will be asked for the encoding, byte order, channel count, and sample rate, since the file itself does not record them.

 

Common defaults are 16-bit signed PCM at 44,100 Hz or 48,000 Hz; telephony recordings are frequently 8-bit at 8,000 Hz. FFmpeg and SoX can play and convert raw-audio from the command line once you supply the same parameters. Save the result as WAV or MP3 so the settings travel with the file from then on. Therefore, another option for opening an MKV file is to download the appropriate codecs that are compatible with the selected media player. To accomplish this, download the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) from a trusted site, such as Ninite.
