PowerPoint Open XML Slide Show (PPSX) is a presentation saved so that it launches straight into full-screen slide show mode instead of opening in the editing view. The file content is identical to a PPTX — the same ZIP package of Open XML parts, with the same slides, transitions, and animations — only the extension differs. PPSX is the usual choice for self-running presentations, kiosk displays, and decks emailed to an audience for viewing rather than editing.
How to open a PPSX file?
Double-click the file and Microsoft PowerPoint plays it immediately as a slide show. Press Esc to exit.
To edit the deck instead, open PowerPoint first and use File → Open, or rename the file from .ppsx to .pptx. LibreOffice Impress and Google Slides also open PPSX, as do the various PowerPoint Viewer alternatives.

PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation (PPT) is the original binary format of Microsoft PowerPoint, the default from the late 1980s until PowerPoint 2007 introduced PPTX. A PPT file stores slides, text, images, transitions, speaker notes, and any embedded audio or video in a single proprietary structure. Being binary rather than XML, it is larger, more susceptible to corruption, and able to carry macros, which makes unexpected PPT attachments worth treating carefully.

Every current version of PowerPoint still opens PPT in Compatibility Mode and offers to convert it to the newer PPTX format.
