An HTM file is a web page written in HyperText Markup Language — exactly the same thing as an .html file. The shorter extension is a leftover from early Windows and DOS systems, which limited file extensions to three characters, and many older web servers and authoring tools kept the habit. There is no difference at all in the content: browsers treat .htm and .html identically.

 

How to open an HTM file?

To inspect or change the markup, open the file in Visual Studio Code, Notepad++, or any text editor. Saved pages frequently rely on an accompanying _files folder holding images and stylesheets, so keep the two together when moving the page.
