Optimizes layout and formatting for a specific e-reader. Choose the one that matches your device.
Attempts to detect and correct common styling problems in the source file. Experimental, so check the output before relying on it.
Add margin (0-10 cm)
The base font size is the size of the bulk of the text in your document. Set it and we rescale every font size proportionately, so the most common size becomes your chosen value and headings, captions, and other text scale with it. Select "No Change" to keep the original sizes.
For example, "Mikhail Gorbachiov" will be replaced by "Mikhail Gorbachiov."
Sets the character encoding of the input file. Use this if your text shows up as garbled symbols, which happens when a file has no encoding declaration or declares the wrong one. This overrides any encoding declared in the file, so leave it on "Auto" unless you're fixing a specific problem.
Enter a title (maximum 100 characters) for the output file. This is stored in the file's metadata and is what e-readers display in a library list, rather than the filename. Leave it empty to use the source file's title, if it has one.
Enter Author Name, maximum 100 characters

A Word file is a text document created in Microsoft Word, saved today with the .docx extension. It holds far more than plain text: paragraph and character styles, headings, tables, images, headers and footers, footnotes, comments, and tracked changes all live inside the same file. Modern Word documents are Office Open XML packages, an open published standard, which is why so many non-Microsoft programs can read them.

How to open a Word file?

Microsoft Word is the obvious answer, and Word for the web views and edits documents in a browser with a Microsoft account.

If you do not have Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, and Apple Pages all open Word files. Fonts and spacing occasionally shift between applications, so when a document must print exactly as written, convert it with our Word to PDF tool first.

Mobipocket eBook (MOBI) is an e-book format built for handheld devices, storing text as compressed HTML so that it reflows to fit small screens. Amazon bought Mobipocket in 2005 and made MOBI the foundation of the original Kindle format. It supports bookmarks, annotations, and a table of contents, but not the complex layouts or embedded fonts that EPUB allows. Amazon retired MOBI support in 2022.

How to open a MOBI file?

Calibre is the most capable option: it reads MOBI, manages your library, and converts between every common e-book format.

Older Kindle e-readers and the Kindle desktop app still open MOBI files copied over USB, and mobile apps such as FBReader and Moon+ Reader handle them too. Because Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI, converting your library with our MOBI to EPUB tool is worth doing.
