Shockwave Flash, later renamed Small Web Format (SWF), is the file type Adobe Flash used to deliver animations, interactive banners, browser games, and video across the web. An SWF stores vector artwork, timelines, embedded media, and ActionScript code in a compact package that streamed well over slow connections. Adobe ended support for Flash Player on 31 December 2020, and every major browser has since removed it, so SWF is now a legacy format.

How to open an SWF file?

Ruffle is the modern route: it is a Flash emulator that runs SWF content as a desktop application or browser extension, without Flash Player itself.

Standalone players such as SWF File Player also work on Windows, and VLC media player can play simple SWF files that contain only video. For animations you want to keep long-term, converting them to a standard video format with our SWF to MP4 tool is the most reliable way to preserve them.

Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is a digital audio file format that reduces file size via lossy compression. Its primary uses are digital TV, digital radio, and Internet streaming. It is the standard audio format for iOS, YouTube, Nintendo, and Playstation. ISO/IEC designated the AAC codec as an improvement to MP3, due its ability to compress file size more efficiently while providing quality similar to uncompressed audio.

How to open an AAC file?

For best results, use VLC media player to open AAC files. Alternatively, AAC also opens by default in iTunes. AAC files are ubiquitous, however, and open in many other programs and software.

Additionally, since AAC files often serve as the audio files for video games, they open on most popular gaming consoles, such as Nintendo 3DS and Playstation 4.
