Keep original size

Portable Pixmap Format (PPM) is an uncompressed, raster-based colour image format from the Netpbm family. A PPM file stores a plain header followed by RGB values for every pixel, either as readable ASCII text or as binary data. Because nothing is compressed or discarded, PPM is deliberately simple for programs to read and write, at the cost of very large file sizes.

 

How to open a PPM file?

Most operating systems do not open PPM by default. XnView MP and GIMP both read it, and on Windows IrfanView opens PPM as well.

 

PPM is mainly used as an intermediate format in image-processing pipelines rather than for storage or sharing. The bitmap and raster structure of TIFFs provide this file format with the flexibility to function as a container for JPEGs, image files with lossless compression, images with layers, or as pages.

How to open a TIFF file?

The most common programs to open TIFF files are Photo Viewer for Windows and Apple Preview for macOS. A free and independent program you can use is called XnView MP. You can also use our TIFF to JPG converter if you are having trouble opening tiff files.


Alternative programs such as ColorStrokes, GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), Adobe Photoshop, and ACDSee are also useful for opening and handling TIFF files.
